SCHOLLE IN THE NEWS
07/02/2008 | Northlake, IL — Scholle Packaging, the world leader in bag-in-box packaging, is showing its commitment to environmental sustainability efforts by conducting a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to measure environmental impacts of bag-in-box wine packaging, as compared to traditional glass bottle wine packaging. Results will be released upon the completion of the study, which is projected for early 2009.
Franklin Associates of Prairie Village, Kansas, an independent, third-party agency, will conduct research that specifically quantifies Scholle Packaging’s environmental impact by following International Association for Standardization (ISO) methodology for measuring LCA.
The purpose of an LCA is to identify potential environmental and health impacts of products or processes, and is a technique used to integrate impact factors on a site-specific or system basis. Detailed, quantified lists of environmental inputs and outputs for each system are studied and used to identify the amount of raw material use, energy use, solid wastes, atmospheric emissions and water use.
Bag-in-box wine packaging provides an environmentally smart alternative for wine consumers by typically providing more volume of wine for the weight of the package. Offering both convenience and value, bag-in-box has become one of the fastest growing packaging segments of the wine industry in the United States. More wine drinkers today understand that quality and environmental stewardship can go hand-in-hand. With this shift in consumer mind-set, the need for wine packaging to provide less environmental impacts, as well as preserving the freshness of wine for weeks rather than days after opening, is changing the way wineries think about packaging their wines.
Scholle Packaging provides unparalleled support in helping wineries transition to bag-in-box packaging. The Scholle team of experts assists in facilitating the process from supplying equipment to providing marketing basics for customers.
